Dr Ian Wilkinson
GP Partner
Male
Dr Wilkinson completed medical training at The University of Newcastle upon Tyne in 2006. Prior to studying medicine, he had careers as a professional footballer and physiotherapist. He qualified as a GP in 2012 and has worked in the Wigan and Leigh area since. Dr Wilkinson started at Premier Health Team in April 2020 and currently works two and a half days a week at the Practice. He has maintained an interest in Out of Hours and Urgent Care and has extensive experience in GP roles in both areas. He currently works at Leigh and Bolton Urgent Treatment Centres.
Dr Wilkinson has been involved as a Club and Match day doctor in both rugby league and football for many years. He has additional qualifications in Sports and Exercise Medicine and Musculoskeletal Medicine and performs joint injections for musculoskeletal conditions. He is the cancer and palliative care lead for the Practice and co-ordinates and supervises medical students who visit the Practice from the University of Manchester. Dr Wilkinson has a busy home life with four children and enjoys spending time away with his family.

Practice Nurse
Angela is an experienced registered nurse prescriber with a background in general medicine, midwifery, neonatal care from special care through to intensive care and immunisation.
Her role includes: chronic disease management reviews, cervical screening, immunisation, travel assessment and vaccination, contraceptive advice, depo-provera injections, ring pessary changes, HRT initiation and monitoring, as well as various types of screening and health promotion.
She recently contributed to the practice achieving the Pride in Practice Gold award for excellence in lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans healthcare and supports equal access to care for the patients who are part of the LGBTQ+ community
